D23 Expo 2022 Dates & Tickets

Dates and tickets for D23 Expo 2022, yes 2022! D23 Expo was set to return in 2021, but has been moved to 2022 to kick off the upcoming celebration of 100 years of The Walt Disney Company!

When is D23 Expo 2022?

The D23 Expo is typically held at the Anaheim Convention Center in late August every-other year. But 2020 had different plans, which made a domino affect on many things. 2021 will take a year off and instead we’ll see D23 Expo return to Anaheim September 9-11, 2022.

When do D23 Expo tickets go on sale?

D23 Expo 2022 tickets go on sale January 2022.  Note the taxes and shipping fees associated with the ticket purchase. And, you can even get shopping started early with exclusive add-ons during check out.

How much are D23 Expo tickets?

Top Hotels for D23 Expo 2022

Hotels surrounding the Anaheim Convention Center fill up fast when a big event like the D23 Expo hits town. The hotels nearest the convention center like the Hilton Anaheim and Doubletree Convention Center typically sell out for Expo dates a year in advance which means the time to make your short list is now.

Plan Your D23 Expo Day

Planning your day at the D23 Expo is probably the most difficult part of the convention. Gold members get special perks like early entrance to the expo which can save you time and possibly get you into prime presentations. I used my Gold Member perks during the 2017 and 2019 event here.

I suggest you pick a 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice in case certain presentations reach capacity or you can’t make it there in time due to parking or other circumstances.  Remember to add time to the beginning of each presentation for waiting in line and be sure to add some time for shopping!

For lines, expect plenty of them. D23 Expo experts say to arrive by 4 am each morning if you want to get into the major Hall D23 morning panel. Many, many people stay overnight.

D23 Expo Lines

Overnight queueing is almost a rite of passage for the super-dedicated. You may still get a seat without lining up overnight but obviously the best seats go to those who arrive first.

Thursday and Friday you can begin official line-up (I say official because informal lines may begin prior) at 10pm and will be escorted inside for overnight lines. No overnight lines for Sunday panels.

Not into overnight queueing? Most people say be there by 4 am for the best seats. Certainly don’t arrive at opening or even an hour before, you may not make it inside in time for the panel.

Panel rooms are cleared out before each session. You cannot stay in for one presentation and stay in for the next. Many people do leave and hop into line right away, but there is no guarantee you’ll get back in.

If you want limited edition merchandise or premium seating, expect to spend lots of time in line. There’s just no way around it if you’re looking at the Hall D23 panels. Smaller panels may be less crowded.

D23 Expo App

D23 Expo app will be your Expo bestie. Read about how to use the app before the expo to be ready and up to date.

D23 Expo app 2019

The D23 Expo app has been updated for 2019, and open to all users!

but it appears to be rolling out only to apple users who had it downloaded in the past. I expect the full version for all devices to be ready soon but here’s how to update your app if you have it already and are on an apple device:

  1. Delete the D23 App, it will not show it needs updating yet.
  2. Go into the app store
  3. Tap on your profile pic
  4. Tap purchased
  5. Search for 23 here and re-download

D23 Expo app allows you to discover what’s happening and when, along with location. You can save your favorites and allow push notifications to remind you about upcoming events or panels. View maps, activate your badge, get StagePass, TalentPass and more.

D23 Expo 2022 Disney Legends Ceremony

Here’s a look back at what we saw in 2019 and I look forward to changes coming in 2022. I will be updating this post as new information is released.

The Legends Ceremony will take place Friday morning, August 23, 2019 in the D23 Hall. Since 1987, Disney has celebrate nearly 300 Disney Legends. In 2019 legends include:

Wing Chao. From D23, ” Wing served as vice chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts for Asia Pacific Development as well as executive vice president of Walt Disney Imagineering, where he oversaw master planning, architecture, and design. Wing directed development teams consisting of Disney Imagineers and many of the world’s most renowned architects and designers. He also developed and built projects, including resort hotels, parks, cruise ships, entertainment venues, water attractions, convention and exhibition centers, sports stadiums, restaurants, retail spaces, recreational complexes, office spaces, and two new-town communities, at The Walt Disney Company’s properties in California, Florida, Hawai‘i, Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and other locations worldwide.”

Robert Downey Jr. His Disney debut was in the 2006 remake of The Shaggy Dog, but we mostly know him as Tony Stark, the man who helped launch Marvel Studios into what it is today. D23 says, “Robert will next star in the title role in 2020’s The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle and is in pre-production on the third installment of the successful Sherlock Holmes franchise.”

Jon Favreau. Producer and director,  his directing credits include Iron Man (2008), Iron Man 2(2010), the live-action remake of The Jungle Book (2016), and The Lion King (2019). His list of successes and accomplishments truly goes on and on.

James Earl Jones. Known for his villainous vocal performances in Star Wars films, including most recently in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) and TV shows like Star Wars Rebels (2014–18). His voice can also be heard in Disney Parks around the world.

Bette Midler. “Sistas!” Bette played Winifred in the Halloween classic Hocus Pocus (1993). D23 adds, “she also starred in The Lottery (1989), a short film produced for the Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park (now Disney’s Hollywood Studios) in Florida for guests of the park’s Backstage Studio Tour.”

Kenny Ortega. I love, love Kenny’s work. If you’re not familiar with his name, you’ve certainly enjoyed the fruits of his labor. D23 says, Kenny “is a multi-award-winning director, choreographer, and producer. His first work with Disney was choreographing the TV special Disney’s Totally Minnie (1988), followed by Mickey’s 60th Birthday the same year, and he would go on to direct three episodes of Touchstone Television’s Hull High in 1990. In 1992, Kenny directed his first feature film, the beloved Disney musical Newsies, which was followed, in 1993, by the Halloween favorite Hocus Pocus. In 2006, he helmed the Disney Channel smash hit High School Musical, and the success of the first film would bring him back to direct—and choreograph—the sequels High School Musical 2 (2007) and High School Musical 3: Senior Year (2008). Kenny also produced and staged the High School Musical: The Concert tour, as well as the Miley Cyrus and Jonas Brothers Best of Both Worlds Tour. His other Disney credits include directing the 2014 short The Making of FrozenThe Cheetah Girls 2 (2006), and, most recently, the international phenomenon Descendants (2015), Descendants 2 (2017), and Descendants 3, which will be released this summer.”

Barnette Ricci. As a choreographer at Disneyland in the 1960s, “Barnette choreographed and directed many parades, including Christmas parades, America on Parade, and the Main Street Electrical Parade. Perhaps her biggest project to date is the creation of Fantasmic! Debuting at Disneyland in 1992.” -D23.

Robin Roberts. Who is not Gayle King. D23 says, “Robin joined ESPN and would quickly become a frequent contributor to the network’s programming. In her 15 years at ESPN, she contributed to NFL Primetime and hosted SportsCenterand In the Game with Robin Roberts. Robin began making appearances on ABC’s Good Morning America(GMA) in 1995, and in 2005 left ESPN to join the show full-time as co-anchor. Since joining GMA, the show has won four Emmys for Outstanding Morning Program. For ABC, Robin has hosted In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: All Access Nashville, as well as ABC’s red carpet coverage of the Academy Awards, and has created original broadcast and digital programming for the network through her production company, Rock’n Robin Productions. In 2007, Hyperion publishing released Robin’s first book, From the Heart: Seven Rules to Live By. Among Robin’s many awards are the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism, membership in the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame, and being named one of Glamour‘s Women of the Year.”

Diane Sawyer. D23 writes, “ABC News anchor, tackling some of the biggest issues of our time with original reporting, primetime specials, long-form interviews, and in-depth investigations. One of the most respected journalists in the world, she has traveled the globe delivering breaking news reports, and has conducted interviews with almost every major newsmaker of our time. Her primetime documentaries have won critical acclaim for shedding light on difficult and previously under-reported topics, including her reporting on the realities of poverty in America. Diane’s reporting has been recognized with numerous awards, including duPonts; Emmys; Peabodys; the grand prize of the premier Investigative Reporters and Editors Association; an IRTS Lifetime Achievement Award; and the USC Distinguished Achievement in Journalism Award. In 1997 she was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame. After more than a decade in television news, Sawyer joined ABC News in February 1989 as co-anchor of Primetime. She was named co-anchor of Good Morning America in January 1999, and held the post until taking over the World News anchor chair in December 2009.”

Ming Na-Wen. You know her as Agent Melinda May, aka “The Cavalry,” on the ABC series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or from playing Jing-Mei Chen on ER. She also played the title star of the Disney classic Mulan. Her voice is also heard in Disney Channel’s Phineas and Ferb and more.

Hans Zimmer. Academy Award winner , two-time Golden Globe winner, with three Grammys, an American Music Award, and a Tony Award in the mix. “His early work includes additional music for White Fang (1991) and co-writing music for Cool Runnings (1993). His groundbreaking, Academy Award-winning instrumental score for The Lion King (1994) was followed by many memorable projects, including Crimson Tide (1995), Muppet Treasure Island (1996), The Rock (1996), Pearl Harbor (2001), King Arthur (2004), and Iron Man (2008). Hans is the guiding force behind the music of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, serving in various composing, editing, and producing capacities for The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), Dead Man’s Chest (2006), At World’s End (2007), and On Stranger Tides (2011). Hans composed the music for this summer’s reimagining of The Lion King.” -D23.

D23 Expo 2022 StorePass

Here’s a look back at what we saw in 2019 and I look forward to changes coming in 2022. I will be updating this post as new information is released.

It seems like there are two camps to D23 Expo—panels and shopping. Sure there’s some cross over but you almost have to be entirely dedicated to one or the other. If you want hard to get, limited edition merchandise you have to be committed to the feat and can attend smaller panels after shopping is done. If the main panels are super important to you, then you do your shopping from what’s left over after the major panels.

That being said, I am a panel person so I don’t have much experience in the shopping aspect of D23 Expo. What I do know, I will share here.

Shoppers are the most dedicated D23 Expo attendees. Those looking for hard-to-get merchandise line up for overnight queuing without hesitation. Since everyone is held in the same space overnight, I can tell you I saw much more people sleeping for shopping than the panel. They spare no expense (or lack of sleep) to get those items on their list.

New in 2019! StorePass allows guests with activated badges (more on that in the ticket section above)  to make advanced reservations online for shopping times at select retailers.

StorePass gives you a designated time to shop, 1 time per day. Choose from Disney Store, Mickey’s of Glendale or Disney Dream Store. Reserve your time here. Standby guests will be allowed in as space permits and in case of reservation no-shows.

Advance online reservations for all event days will be available starting Friday, August 16 at 12:00 p.m. PT/ 3:00 p.m. ET until reservation capacity is full. If guests do not receive their desired reservation(s), there will be standby queues at all StorePass, StagePass, and Talent Central locations.

If you’re looking to shop, there’s going to be plenty of spending opportunities. Hang in here with me as I mostly regurgitate the most recent shopping press release from D23:

Thanks for the info on D23 Expo!! Newbee here, and I want to go! My question is, if going to the expo with my family of 3, is there an advantage to getting the D23 individual plan or duo plan membership? And will the expo sell out?

    • Hi Jennifer, I would get the duo in hopes that the expo tickets can purchase one for a guest as well. The D23 website says, “Access for TWO D23 Gold Members to virtual and in-person events, plus the ability for each Gold Member to bring Guest(s) to select events.” The duo is money saving compared to 3 individual golds and if needed you could always do one duo and one single to make up the three of you. SO excited you’re going this time. I suggest getting tickets earlier but it doesn’t usually sell out right away.

Hello! Sorry for yet another comment on tickets. Has anyone received their email today from D23 with their ticket codes (in order to register your ticket on the D23 site)? I haven’t received my tickets in the mail or the email with the codes yet. I tried calling D23 but all lines are busy and the mailbox is full. I’m not sure what to do. I’ll keep watching for the email today…..

Hi! Is there anyone with an extra Friday ticket that can be sold to me? MY brother decided to go last minute but by the time he decided he wanted to go, the tickets sold out the morning of. So is there anyone out there with a reasonable price because I would really like for my brother to come and join my group.

    • Not at all, they began sending them on that date. Not all will be sent on that date. I haven’t got mine yet either. Plus, even if they’re lost in the mail there’s a way to look it up later this month but still before the event.

  • Ann

Hello! Thank you so much for this tips! It’ll be my first time and I’m a bit nevous about it. I also want to go to the Legends Ceremony. You mentioned going at 4AM Friday to get in for the panel but I’m wondering where in the convention should I go in? Seeing thatll it be early, will there be security/volunteers to guide us to the right direction? And also we can go at any time right?

    • I’m still waiting for more info on opening and closing doors. Last time they did close doors for several hours over night so you needed to arrive before a certain time or wait until the doors opened when the expo actually starts. I hope that makes sense. And yes there is still security and all that stuff to get in even in the middle of the night.

  • Denise

Are there any discounts for AP or DVC members at the Disney store, the Disney Dream Store & Mickeys of Glendale ay the D23 expo?

  • Melissa

So it’s my first year, and I just wanted to try it out. With only Friday tickets, and only caring about shopping casually (no exclusives) do I NEED to be there early still? Can I just show up after the hall opens and walk into the floor casually?

Also is there any info on parking? Or will they announce anything?

    • Hey Melissa, there’s still lots to do and see even just as a casual guest. There will always be lines and wait to get in. The only time last year I didn’t see waits (about an hour or more) was around 2 and 3 pm when most people were leaving or staying inside, rather than entering for the first time. Because of traffic to get to the area and security screening to get inside, you may still want to arrive about an hour before the doors officially open. Parking: convention center parking, or I suggest The Anaheim Hotel which is a short walk and about $20. That area, if you come from the north end of Harbor might not be as congested either.

Wow, your website is a wealth of great information!
This is our first D23 and we are hoping to see the Disney Legends Awards Ceremony. We are Gold Members and if we arrive at 3:30-4 am are we able to get into the Convention Center? Will we be directed to the line for the Legends Ceremony to wait until 10:30 a.m. to go in when it begins? Or must we stay overnight?
Thanks so much for your info.!
    Have a magical Disney day!

  • Anna

Hi! I’m going to the expo this year and now have an extra ticket (gold member for 3 days) available. Any advice on how or where to sell it? Thanks!

  • Liyah

Hi I am only interested doing the agent of shield autograph signing fri Aug 23 2019 what are my chances of getting this and is it true all sorcerer package gets this signing and not to the public ?

    • Hi Liyah, I wish I could help more but I have never done autograph signings at the Expo and I’d say if you’re only hoping for this one, hard to get experience, you might leave disappointed. I’d only consider going if you also want to try some of the other events and offerings of the expo, with Agent of Shield being a big bonus to your visit.

  • S Smith

I would like to know how this expo will be different then the last one. I had a ticket for early entrance. After over 3 hours of waiting to get in and over an hour of waiting to get in the store, The store was sold out of items, except mugs. I was able to cover the rest of the expo in under 2 hours. What a waste.

    • I can definitely see how that would be a waste to you. Of course if panels aren’t of interest to you it will be mostly the same, with the acceptation of the newly announced StorePass– people can reserve shopping times in advance this year which might give you better access to exclusive merchandise.

    Hi Jessica,
I am very excited to attend my 1st D23 Expo in 2019. I have a few questions:
I have heard there is an app for the expo. When does this come out? I keep looking for it. Many expoers recommend using it.
    When do tickets arrive?
Do you need to purchase theme park tickets to get the discount?
Is there a show floor & shopping map of the Expo and when do we receive it?
For attendees waiting on line overnight in Hall E is there a place to put our pillows & exercise mats from the night before?
Will there be food for breakfast after spending the night or should we pack one with us?

    • Hi Denise, lots of things to learn I know :). The app is D23 Expo, it still shows 2017 details but that is the correct one and will be updated probably days before the expo. I don’t know why they always wait so long to update it. Tickets will be mailed beginning about July 20, 2019 for U.S. residents. If you want discount Disneyland tickets, use the link in your D23 Expo ticket confirmation email or my ticket partner here. The show floor map will be in the app. When waiting overnight, they give you a time frame in the morning to remove your pillows and supplies and return to your spot. In the past, food was scarce, I recommend bringing your own. Such an exciting time!

  • Tiffany

Hi!! I was wondering what time you’d suggest to get in line by in order to attend all the major panels in hall D23 each day?

  • Mikah Sitko

So much good information! Here’s my plan of attack. Let me know if this sounds plausible…

Arrive at 10pm Thursday night to get in line for the Mickey’s of Glendale pin store. First thing after opening: rush to the pin store and spend around 30-60 mins. Rush back to get in line for the Disney+ panel.

I am attending for pins and Disney+ primarily. Does that plan seem like the best bet for both? Thanks!!

    • Good plan in! Let me dissect it a bit. Thursday 10 pm, good plan. First thing after opening Friday morning, there won’t be a rush per se. They give a limited amount of people in line entry at a time, and as each small group exits, more people are let in. So it really depends on where you are in that line but 10 pm is a good time to arrive, so hopefully you’re one of the first groups to be let in. Buying/standing in line to pay is another issue. If you can manage to find what you need and get paid for quickly you’re golden! You’ll want to get in line for Disney+ (for best seating) by about 11 or 11:30, when the hall downstairs is emptied with people now in the Legends panel. Once you get situated and your spot is secured in line, security staff might let you leave the area to get lunch. You can also totally pack in food and snacks!

  • Susan Bechler

Hello. We will be attending D23 for the first time this year. We have a Gold Member Family Pass and my main goal is to see the parks and resorts panel on Sunday. What time do you recommend arriving at the convention center? Also, are there separate lines for Gold Members and how do you know which line to enter?
One last question….I have 2 extra 3 day tickets as our friends decided not to attend. ☹️ Are there any sites that I can see if others would want these tickets? I hate for them to go to waste. Thank you for the great advice !

    • I am watching this one closely since having it on Sunday is new. Usually they don’t allow overnight queueing for Sunday but they may this year. I keep this post updated and once line info is released, I will add it here. My go-to answer is arrive 1 hour before they allow people in, but if they allow overnight, then by 4 or 4:30 am. For reselling, try some D23 Expo Facebook groups, I know there’s many people who missed out on those tickets!

    • Dave Rose

      Hi Susan,
I’m looking for two 3 day tickets if you still have them! drose22 at rogers dot com

Thanks for all these great tips, Jessica!

  • Darci

Hi there! Thanks for the info. I’m coming this year for the first time with my husband and 7 year old. Do people typically show up at 4am with kids? Is it possible for just my husband or I to line up at 4am, and have the other join us later? My son is a really huge Iron Man fan, so we are trying to get into the legends panel on Friday! Thank you!

    • Hey Darci, honestly I saw very few kids in any of the major panels. But that’s not to say kids aren’t welcome. It is not possible to save spots in line and have your child join you later. They distribute wrist bands and you’re in line, in a secured space. It’s very controlled of who can enter/exit that area. Once they release exact times of line up, then you can plan better but I do think 4 am is a good time to arrive. Bring hoodies, it’s cold in the holding space. Pack breakfast and enjoy chatting with other crazy Disney and Marvel fans.

  • Claudia

Hi! So previous years the Animation Panel was held on Friday, with the Live Action panel on Saturday. By looking at the schedule they released so far, are they both being combined in one panel on Saturday morning? I just want to make sure. Thanks!

  • Kayla

When does the schedule of like when panels are and stuff come out? Or is it just like you pick a day and hope for the best???

  • Lydia

I’m so thankful for this blog! I’m going for the first time on opening day (Friday). If we show up at 4am Friday morning, how does parking work and where do we wait in line?

    • In the past, parking has been tricky if you’re not staying at a nearby hotel. Some options are parking at The Anaheim Hotel (with a daily parking fee, space permitting) and walking, parking at nearby shopping centers and Uber over. In the past, the convention center parking didn’t open that early but I will keep an eye on it and post updates here as well. You will wait inside the convention center after arriving. So glad you’re going, it will be amazing!

  • Navodya

    Hi Jessica,

I just wanted to know, do they give out any free stuff or do we have to purchase everything?

    -Navo

    • There are often giveaways in panels, but you never really know if yours will have something. For example, in one panel they gave away green Mickey balloons to random attendees. One panel we got Disney trading pins from parks around the world–mine is Tink from Disneyland Paris! We also got exclusive viewing for Fantasmic which soft opened that weekend in 2017. There’s certainly a chance you’ll get something!

  • Chantelle Martin

    Hi Jessica Sanders,

This is amazing, thank you so much for sharing! I’m a first-timer at the D23 Expo this year and had some more questions after reading this. I sent you an email since it’s a little long for this comment section. Looking forward to hearing from you! Thanks again

      • Heather Walsh

This is my first time with my family attending. What are the hours for each day of the expo? I have a hard time standing for long periods of time. Can I bring a mini pull out chair? It’s no longer than arms length. Thank you! Heather

        • In 2017 the official hours were 9 am until 7 pm. The D23 Expo app still has 2017 details but you can download it now and once they add new info it will be an incredibly helpful tool.

  • Adriana

Hi, I heard that it some panels there has been times where the first 100 people are allowed to meet the special guest at the panel. Not wondering if thats gonna happen this year but I wanted to know if that has happened before at one of the expo’s and if so then when.

    • I haven’t had that happen, but I also attended the huge panels and it’s more likely to happen in smaller, more obscure panels. I don’t know for sure if it does happen though.

  • Robert

If we start out as non-Gold Members, when we bought the tickets, but end up going the Gold membership. Can we still get the benefits of Gold members if our tickets are from being Non-gold Members?

    • If your pass is blocked out, which I am guessing it will be which is why you’re curious about twilight tickets . . . twilight tickets are available for D23 goers and only good for use on select days during the expo, beginning later in the afternoon. You should have received an email from D23 Guest Services about any Disneyland ticket offers, including those. They are link-specific so it’s not something I can share. If you don’t see info about it in any of your D23 emails, you can contact guest services for more details and then compare prices of doing that or maybe upgrading your AP.

    • Gerald

No my pass is not blocked out that day, I just thought it was something like Mickey’s not so scary halloween, where only people with special event tickets are able to be in the park. Thanks!!

  • Ashley

Hi, this is my first time going to D23 and im really excited. I am only going to go on the first day with one of my friends. We want to be in the front for the Disney Legends Panel and he is willing to get there on Thursday at 10 PM but I am not allowed to go that early. I was wondering if you know if I can join him in the line at around 4 AM.
    Best,
    Ashley

    • You cannot join him at a later time. There is a strict no spot saving policy and security cast members give out a limited number of wristbands, distributing different colors depending on when you arrive in line. I arrived about that time (4AM) for legends last time and as a Gold Member was in one of the first few rows of Gold Members. The rows work like this: first few rows are Disney people/employees/VIPS, next several rows are Sorcerers, then behind that is Gold Members, then general. You will definitely be good to go and get a pretty decent spot by arriving at 4 am. I hope that helps! It will be a blast!

Hello, my wife and I are avid Disney fans and have been Disney World annual passholders for a number of years now. This will be our first time attending D23, and my wife’s first time going to DisneyLand. We’re very excited and are looking forward to all the exciting things that D23 has to offer. I’m just curious about the lines and waiting overnight. We’re looking to do things like the Marvel panel, but that is held later in the day on Friday. Would/Has a line formed for this overnight on Thursday, or would I have to give up most of my day in the convention Friday to wait in the line? How exactly does it work?

    • Great question and I actually tested this out but on Saturday for the parks panel. You can begin lining up for the Marvel panel after the first major morning panel has begun, because the space where they hold people in line is the same. Does that make sense? I would arrive and hover around the only escalator down about 45-60 minutes prior to the first panel beginning. They will rope off the escalator and no one will be allowed to queue, but unofficial lines start near the escalator anyways. If you’re up there and ready, you’ll be one of the first admitted to the basement for the official line.

  • Carla

Hi there! With D23 soon underway, I’m trying to prepare the most I can for the big weekend! It will be my first time going, so I have a question about overnight line waiting, as I plan to do so at least one of the nights. What does everyone do with their sleeping bags and things once the line starts moving? Does it get carried for the rest of time while in the center? I’m waiting for the Disney Store and I’d rather not have to carry all of my things. My plan is to run back to my hotel after the store and come back, to make sure my things are safe. Any suggestions or thoughts?

    • So exciting! What happens for people sleeping over night- as it gets closer they’ll release rules on what sleeping stuff you can bring in and at what time, etc. Then at like 6 or 5 am, can’t remember exactly when…they will tell everyone it’s time to go put their stuff away. You’ll have a wristband to get back in and everyone is very aware of their place in line. Everyone respects the line placement and you’re spot is secure. You put your stuff away and come back within an hour. Then wait some more for shopping to open. It’s very bright in there all night so bring ear plugs and eye mask. It’s also cold! Can’t wait to have more info as it gets closer.

  • Anonymous

    The infomation is really helpful.
It my first time to join D23 2019. I am from HK, very excited and little bit scared, seem is it so many ppl.
Which day do you think is better to go? The panels of both 3 day is Good for me! But because of the time, I can only join one day.

  • Aubria Abell

I am considering going to the D23 expo 2019 due to something I read about the expo having information about the new Pixar film Onward. Has there been any confirmation or further information on that? Would it possibly be a panel specifically on the film or would it be simply talked about in another panel? Do they release a official schedule of what days things are happening before the event? If so when?

    • Hi Aubrey, if they do show some of that movie, it will likely be in the Pixar and Walt Disney Animations Studios 2:30 pm on Friday. That is officially confirmed, but you never know what they will announce until you’re there hearing it! 🙂

  • Erin

I am going in 2019. I went in 2017 and was never able to get into the pin store. The line was so long and people waited all day in that line. I only collect pins for my personal collection. How can I make sure I get into that store this year?

    • Shoppers tend to do best if they spend the night at the convention center :(. However, keep a close watch on this and other D23 emails to see if anything has changed this for shopping access at the 2019 event.

  • Samantha

Hi I have purchased three day gold member discounted tickets for the expo in 2019. We are all first timers. Both my husband and I have Spinal Cord Injuries that require wheelchairs for our mobility. Is there plenty of wheelchair seating or very little? Basically I was wondering if we might need to get there even earlier than the general public to get accessible seats for a panel. Unfortunately due to pressure sores and other medical things I might not be to manage camping out overnight. Just wondering.

    • Hi Samantha, I would definitely contact [email protected] for your specific circumstances but my understanding is your party needs to wait in the regular line and you join them when the time to go inside the panel arrives. There is limited space for wheelchairs in a specific area but it’s my understanding you still need to wait in the queue to secure that space. Will you update me with your findings?

  • Michael Smith

    Hi

As a first timer to D23 I’m thinking whether to buy a 3 day or 1 day pass as I’m coming from the UK I do want to spend some time in the parks

    Hope you can help!

    Michael

    • Hi Michael, so glad you’re going and all the way from the UK! If I recall correctly, Saturday sold out first last time. SO, one school of thought would be to buy a Saturday only ticket and maybe add Friday later on if you find you can’t resist the offerings for that day. Another option is to decide which day interests you most panel-wise. Legends will be Friday and the outline for main panels should generally be the same as last time, which is listed in this article. Would love to bump into you so please keep in touch!

  • Emily from Houston :)

Hi Jessica! Now thinking about D23 Expo 2019! 🙂 Do you know what TIME tickets will go on sale for the expo on August 23, 2018? I’m *considering* trying for Sorcerer tickets even though I realize it is big $$$. I’ve never been before and the lines are super intimidating! Thanks so much!

    • Hey Emily, so excited for D23 also! I don’t have any times yet but I will continue to update information here and on my Facebook page (@DisneylandPlan). It’s going to be so amazing, I just know it!

  • Lupe

Hi Jessica. First, your website is very informative.

This will be my 3rd time attending D23, however I’d like to finally attend the Disney Legends Awards Ceremony this year. We only have the free D23 membership so I’m not even sure what that gets you. However, if we were to spend the night and get there by 10pm Thursday night, do you think we can still get into the Legends Award Ceremony? I heard they let the Gold members in first, then general public (which I’m assuming is the line I’d have to stand in since I only got the free membership). I don’t want to spend all night in line, only to not make it in. That would be disappointing. :0(
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    • Hey Lupe! Hope this gets to you in time and thanks for the compliments. I think it’s definitely safe to say you’ll get into Legends in the overnight queue. The way the Gold Membership thing works is sorta a two-step process. One: anyone wishing to quit overnight can arrive at 10pm Thursday night or even in the wee hours of the morning (the D23 expo app specifically says before 6am). Two: there are a limited number of priority seating for Gold Members (which I assume will be filled by those Gold Members queuing overnight). Once those GM priority seats are filled, it will be closed off and all GM must join the back of the general admission line. Does that make sense? Just because they can get in an hour earlier does not put them in front of you in line if you sleep over night. I hope that’s somewhat clear :).

  • Thanks for the great info! This is our first time attending the expo. Do you think its possible to attend the Live action Hall D23 panel in the morning and the DisneyParks panel in the afternoon on Saturday? We’d love to go to both, but not sure if it’s doable to get in. We don’t need the closest seats, just want to be in the auditorium 🙂
    Thanks!

    • That’s a big debate among Expo go-ers. In years past many people were able to get into on Hall23 panel and rush back into line for the next (the room is cleared in between panels). However, many people expect this expo to be bigger than ever— for one it grows every year, for two there are many Comic Con visitors this year since the two events are so close together. Best bet? Have a back up plan just in case and try to leave live action a bit early (I imagine many will try this trick) to hop in line for parks before live action gets out. Best of luck and enjoy!

  • Mimi Coms

Do you think there would be a good chance of making it into the Animation panel on Saturday, jumping from Legends?

I’m not sure about the risk of not making it into the Animation panel.

    Thank you.

    • Hey Mimi, thanks for being patient. I am down at the Disneyland Resort this week in prep for the expo so super busy, crazy fun here. That question is a huge debate among attendees. In years past it has happened. I would leave Legends early and cross your fingers to run to the back of the Animation panel line. Then have some back up ideas (there are plenty on the D23 Expo app!) just incase you miss Animation. So much to do, so little time! I hope you enjoy the expo either way!

  • Linda

Hello, I’ll be attending d23 expo for my first time and debating on going for one or 2 days. We are not interested in the panels just walking around seeing the exhibits instead and some shopping. Is the expo big that we would need more than one day to finish?
    Thanks

    • Hi Linda, as of now only single day tickets for Friday and Sunday are available. The D23 Expo app was just released today. My best suggestion is to download the app to see all the offerings of panels, things to do, shopping, celebrity meet and greets and much more . . . from there you can better decide if you’ll need one or two days. It does certainly depend on what you’re interested in but my experience is you cannot see it all even over 3 days without going to any panels. Best of luck in your decision making and hope you have a great time!

      • Linda

Thanks so much Jessica! I have one day passes for Sunday so I think I’ll get Friday passes as well that way we don’t have to rush. Our first time there and then our 1st time at Comic Con a few days later so we are a bit scared of the crowds however very excited!

  • Marguerite

Hi. Thank you so much for your helpful information. I was wondering if you had any idea where we could park overnight if we wanted to line up overnight (and if you know if the would have handicapped parking overnight). Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

    • Hey Marguerite, thanks for getting in touch. You can park overnight at Anaheim Hilton for $16 a night. Also Anaheim GardenWalk allows overnight parking for $24. The Hilton is a lot closer, but you could always Uber or ART over to the convention center from the GardenWalk if needed. Both places will have handicapped parking as mandated by law. Please say hi if you happen to see me amongst the masses!

  • Jamie

I thought I left a comment last night but it looks like it may not have posted…

Your blog is the best, clearest first-hand info I’ve found in my research, so thanks for that! I have a couple (tons of) questions:
-I’ve been to SDCC a number of times. There, once you’re in a panel room, you can stay as a long as you want. Do they clear the rooms between panels or employ SDCC’s method?
-Can you expand on what lines are really like? Where are they located (indoor/outdoor)? How early are you allowed to queue up? Are there different lines for difference rooms?

I may have more questions, but let’s start with those. Thank you!

    • Jamie

Addendum: I think some of my questions may be covered on the D23 website but I’d love to hear from someone who’s actually experienced it.

    • Jamie, thanks so much for the compliment and questions. I’ll answer here and update the post because it’s about time I do that!

      1. Panel rooms are cleared out before each session. You cannot stay in for one presentation and stay in for the next. Many people do leave and hop into line right away, but there is no guarantee you’ll get back in. 2. You’re right, these items are covered on D23 but I’ll answer here as well.

If you want limited edition merchandise or premium seating, expect to spend lots of time in line. There’s just no way around it if you’re looking at the Hall D23 panels. Smaller panels may be less crowded. Many people are saying to expect larger crowds this year due to many SDCC guests coming to this one as well since the dates are back to back. Also, check out the Facebook group D23 Expo 2017. I’ve loved all the discussion and helpful advice there.

      • Jamie

Thanks for the response! Super helpful! I’ll definitely check out that group, thanks for the tip(s)! Sorry, I’m one of those SDCC interlopers 😉 I’ve always wanted to go to D23 and since I’m out there for Comic Con anyway, seemed like the perfect year to drop the dough and give it a go.

A follow-up: Are there separate lines for separate panels being held in the same room? I wouldn’t want to wait in line only to be ushered into the room for the wrong panel. Like, let’s say I want to see the Animation Studios Upcoming Films and not the Disney Legends Awards but I know I need to be in line super early regardless…

Another question: I saw on the D23 FAQ’s that there’s no holding spaces for people in line. Is that enforced by any “line security”? Or is it just referring to once the line starts moving inside, someone can’t hop in at that point. If I were to say get in line at 10pm and someone (one person) joined me at, as an example, 7am, would he be turned away/would I get dirty looks from fellow attendees?

        • That’s awesome Jamie! We’re happy to have the Comic Con crew. Many people go to both! Yes, definitely separate lines. Sometimes it’s hard to distinguish. You just need to keep asking people what line they’re in to make sure you hop in the right one. Last time that was pretty messy but hopefully the event staff has learned to better handle the official and unofficial lines that form.

There’s definitely no holding space, especially for that long. People waiting around you will make sure that doesn’t happen. On top of that, they will hand out wrist bands at some random point overnight (maybe during daytime panels too) and I’ve heard of people leaving to put something in the car, get food, etc. and they will not give an extra wrist band. If you’re not there, you don’t get in. If that person arrived at 7 or even 5, they probably wouldn’t even be able to make their way to you. So much info to digest. Please look out for me there and say hello if you happen to see me in the masses! It will be a great time.

          • Jamie

Great, this definitely gives me an idea of how to plan the days.

And thanks! I will! I’ll be easy to spot cause I’ll have a puppet on my hand 🙂

Hi! I was just wondering if anyone received their D23 tickets in the mail yet. I purchased my tickets July 2016 and I still haven’t received anything. Should I be worried? Thanks in advance!

    • Hi Violetta! Disney fans means serious business. If you’re hoping to get into the most popular panels and do some shopping, plan to spend most of your time in line. Many people sleep over night and I’ve heard arriving at 5 am for a 10 am panel is definitely too late! Crazy stuff. Please say hello if you see me there!

The discounted tickets for D23 Expo attendees went on sale today. If you are already registered for the Expo, check your inbox for the link to purchase your Twilight, 1 Day, 2 Day, 3 Day or 4 Day tickets. Both single park and park hopper options are available.

    • I had an email months ago with the option to buy discount tickets. I think it just depends on when you buy your D23 tickets, but if it’s taking a while to get your email about tickets you can always email their customer service as one reader did and was promptly helped.

Hi there. Do you know when the discounted park tickets go on sale? I purchased my Expo tickets a week or two ago and it says stayed tuned on my email and so have the other websites I’ve visited. Want to make sure we get the best deal on tix.

FYI, single day Saturday tickets are sold out as of 5/15/17. 3 day and single day Friday and Sunday are still available.

    • Thanks for keeping an eye out on those for us! You’re right, as we get closer more days will sell out. As you mentioned, you can now only buy single days for Friday and Sunday. If you want to go to Saturday, you’ll need to buy a 3 day pass. Thanks so much!

Hi there. I love your blog! Curious if you know anything about ordering hotel and tickets via “Be our guest?” I have been working with a travel agent. I received a quote for The Maingate Residence Inn and a 5 day hopper pass for 6 of us. Will they truly give us the best deal? When I experimented online and attempted to book right on Residence Inns site and went to buy 5 day passes it seemed to substantially cheaper for me just do it on own. Please any knowledge would be much appreciated! Best, Tanya

  • Do you know if Twilight tickets are something that is available all year round? I tried to look for them this past January on their website when I was in the area and asked some friends…they all said you can’t get those anymore. So are the Twilight tickets just special for July?

    • Hi Stacie, great question. These tickets are only for D23 Expo attendees and you’re right, Twilight Tickets are only offered during this event and can only be used the week before and after the expo. The only other times when Disneyland offers something somewhat similar is during Mickey’s Halloween Party and other separate ticket events. For example, during Mickey’s Halloween Party the park closes to regular guests at about 7pm and only Halloween Party ticket-holders are admitted. Ticket prices for that varies but has been around $80 in the past. Thanks for asking, I will update the post to reflect the info regarding D23 Expo as I’m sure others have had the same question.
