Disneyland Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Opening
Disneyland Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened in two phases. It’s important to understand what will be open during your Disneyland vacation and how to access the land and attractions. Keep reading for all the important Star Wars Land FAQs.
1. When did Disneyland Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge open?
Disneyland Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened Friday, May 31, 2019 in Anaheim, California. The grand opening event included the land opening, various dining options and food carts, shopping opportunities including building your own droid and light saber, and one main attraction: Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. This is dubbed “phase one.”
Bob Iger announced at the Walt Disney Company’s 2019 Annual Meeting of Shareholders that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open ahead of schedule. Listen to the announcement here.

4. How do I get into Disneyland Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge?
You can walk into the land anytime you’re in Disneyland, but you will need to join a virtual queue to ride Rise of the Resistance.
5. Will my Disneyland ticket get me into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge?
Yes, your Disneyland ticket includes access to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, no additional cost is needed for entry.
Bonus tip: know all the lingo before you go. Residents of Batuu speak a little different than us!
6. Can I get into Disneyland Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge without a reservation?
Yes! The reservation period is over, but you may need to join the virtual queue as discussed above. Get your discount Disneyland tickets now and secure low-price options for hotels too before your visit.
8. Where do I park to visit Galaxy’s Edge?
Any Disneyland parking lot can be used for visits to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Parking details are explained in my easy guide to parking at Disneyland.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge puts you right in the action with two revolutionary attractions. Disney Parks Blog has this to say about the rides coming to Star Wars Land,
Take the controls of the most famous ship in the galaxy aboard Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run . . . Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, the most ambitious, immersive and advanced attraction ever imagined, which will place guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance and will blur the lines between fantasy and reality.
9. What rides are at Disneyland Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge?
There are two attractions at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
The Falcon also has the ability to adjust to daylight and night scenes, and since there are various positions (pilot, gunners and engineers) for you to operate during your mission, the variety is almost endless.
Phase two of Disneyland Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened January 17, 2020 with the second headlining attraction: Rise of the Resistance.
10. What are the ride height requirements for Disneyland Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge?
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is 38″ or taller. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is 40″ or taller. To view Disneyland attraction photos and height requirements, please visit this page.
11. Does Disneyland Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge have Rider Switch?
Yes, Disneyland will allow Rider Switch for both Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Rise of the Resistance.
The Rider Switch feature allows parents or guardians traveling with small children to avoid waiting in line twice while taking turns on attractions. If you have a child who does not meet the minimum height requirements for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run (38″ or taller) and/or Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance (40″ or taller), read about how Rider Switch can work for you during your visit.
12. Does Disneyland Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge have Single Rider Lines?
Single Rider lines are available on select attractions throughout Disneyland Resort. There is a Single Rider line for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Enter via the main entrance and proceed as directed. More details on what you’ll miss when you use Single Rider here.

13. Are Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge rides handicap accessible?
Absolutely! ADA riders can enjoy both attractions at Galaxy’s Edge, as well as enjoy easy navigation through the land. When Disneyland Park was built, queues were smaller and pathways were more narrow. Compare that to when California Adventure was built—massive walkways and every attraction queue can accommodate wheelchairs. We’re delighted to see so much thought and effort put into ADA accessible rides for Galaxy’s Edge.

14. Can you use DAS in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge?
Is it possible to tour Galaxy’s Edge if someone in your group has special needs and/or a physical disability? Yes, and DAS is the answer. DAS users may need to join a boarding group through the Disneyland App as well.
Disneyland Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Disney MaxPass
Whether you prefer the old school FASTPASS method or the digital Disney MaxPass, you’ll need to learn a thing or two before entering Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland.
15. Can I use FASTPASS for Galaxy’s Edge rides?
No, FASTPASS will not initially be available for Galaxy’s Edge attractions like Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run or Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance (strategy guide here). FASTPASS will still be available for numerous other rides at Disneyland Resort.

16. Can I use Disney MaxPass for Galaxy’s Edge rides?
No, Disney MaxPass will not initially be available for Galaxy’s Edge attractions like Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run or Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Disney MaxPass will still be available for numerous other rides at Disneyland Resort.

17. What is the Virtual Queue for Galaxy’s Edge entry?
Virtual queue is no longer needed for the land itself.
But you will need to join a virtual queue to ride Rise of the Resistance. Read more about riding Rise of the Resistance with a virtual queue here.
Disneyland Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Magic Morning
Magic Morning is an early admission option offered with advance 3+ day tickets at Disneyland Park. Guests with Magic Morning get access to Disneyland a whole hour earlier than the general public. But wait . . .
18. Is Galaxy’s Edge open during Magic Morning?
No, Galaxy’s Edge will not be open during Magic Morning or Extra Magic Hour. Disneyland Park will continue to open Fantasyland and Tomorrowland during Magic Morning.
What happened during my Magic Morning test of entering Galaxy’s Edge for riding Smugglers Run in July 2019.
- Our party rode rides in Tomorrowland and Fantasyland for the first 30-40 minutes of Magic Morning
- We went to the gate from Fantasyland to Frontierland to enter Galaxy’s Edge and found out they do not allow entry into Galaxy’s Edge from that access point for the first hour or two of the day. (That is subject to change on a daily basis so ask Cast Member’s when you arrive if that gate will be opened).
- Magic Morning guests were directed to Galaxy’s Edge via Critter Country. Many, many people who had Magic Morning were already inside Galaxy’s Edge before the park opened!
- We quickly made our way there and were funneled into the line for Smugglers Run.
- We were officially in line for the ride before the park opened to the public.
- Wait time was already 60 minutes before it even officially opened!
Long story short, if you want to be one of the first to ride that day, don’t use your Magic Morning for anything else! Please comment on how Magic Morning worked for you so we can all be current on the process.
19. Can I line up for Galaxy’s Edge during Magic Morning?
Yes, as of July 10, 2019 you may line up for entry to Galaxy’s Edge through the Frontierland entry point, which will loop Magic Morning guests through the Critter Country entrance and into the line before everyone else. This puts guests of Magic Morning even closer to all the Star Wars action. Plan to hop in line during your entire Magic Morning in line for Galaxy’s Edge entry. Disneyland Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Food
The first thing that many Disney-fanatics were thrilled to hear about this land was the addition of a cantina. And yes, that means alcohol is now served inside Oga’s Cantina. But on top of that, there will be many other food options to choose from outlined here.
20. Do I need reservations to dine at Galaxy’s Edge?
Yes, but only if you plan on drinking at Oga’s Cantina. Every other dining and restaurant establishment at Galaxy’s Edge is walk-up and/or quick service only including:
- Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo
- Milk Stand
- Ronto Roasters
- Kat Saka’s Kettle
21. Can I use mobile ordering at Galaxy’s Edge?
Mobile dining ordering continues to expand at Disneyland Resort and you can order via Disneyland App for Ronto Roasters, Docking Bay 7 and the Milk Stand. Please note that mobile ordering does not give you access to Galaxy’s Edge.

22. What is there to eat at Galaxy’s Edge?
There are several quick-service dining options in the land including Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo, Milk Stand, Ronto Roasters and Kat Saka’s Kettle. See complete menu listings, along with photos and allergy options here.
23. Is there alcohol at Galaxy’s Edge?
Yes, alcohol is served inside Oga’s Cantina. Guests must finish their alcoholic beverage inside the dining establishment and will not be permitted to walk around Disneyland Park with alcohol.
24. Is there blue milk at Galaxy’s Edge?
Yes, Blue Milk will be served at the Milk Stand, along with Green Milk. Read more about those options here.

25. Where is Disneyland Galaxy’s Edge?
There are three entry and exit points at Disneyland Park for Galaxy’s Edge including Fantasyland, Frontierland and Critter Country. All those details outlined here.
26. What did Star Wars Land replace?
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is in the former Big Thunder Mountain Ranch area, expanding into backstage space. Out-dated rumors suggest that Star Wars Land would be built in either Tomorrowland, Mickey’s Toontown or even land on Harbor Blvd and beyond.
Guests visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will enter Black Spire Outpost, the largest settlement on the planet Batuu. Disney Parks Blog says, “is an infamous stop for traders, adventurers, and smugglers traveling around the Outer Rim and Wild Space. Off the beaten path, this outpost has become a haven for the galaxy’s most colorful — and notorious — characters. Widely known for the petrified remains of its once towering ancient trees, the spires now stand guard across the river valleys and plains and have long captured the imagination of travelers to this planet. To the first settlers, these petrified spires became more than just landmarks; they became the heart of the outpost itself.”

We are going on a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday at the end of September. We don’t have much interest in going to Galaxy’s Edge as we are taking our 3 young children, but do you really think GE will cause max capacity days late in September meaning coming and going from the park for naps would be unwise and leave us unable to get back in in the afternoon?
My gut says no, I don’t think we’ll have capacity issues in September but this is all new territory. I will certainly be updating things here and on my capacity article, as well as on social media. But of course if you’re talking Labor Day weekend that could change my answer. Normal, weekdays in September should be fine. Weekends, I anticipate will be crowded but not capacity.
In September do you think the virtual queue will still be happening? Can you only reserve that once you are in the park? Will people still be crazy lining up hours and hours early. If we are able to get in that will be a bonus but it is not our focus….just wondering how this hype will affect those of us that just want to experience regular Disneyland!
Hey Lisa, if you just want to experience the classics of Disneyland, my current recommendation is line up an hour before opening and give the virtual queue a shot. I do think the virtual queue will be in place the first 6 months to a year and maybe longer. Luckily, I will be in the parks several times before you visit in September and will keep this article updated with details on what to expect, even if you’re just a regular park-goer looking to visit Disneyland.
Hi! I’ll be attending mid July, after the reservation system seems like it’ll be over. I’ve seen other people mention that they may have some sort of “virtual queue” after that point, and that apparently other new lands did something similar. Like you get an alert when you are allowed to enter the park or something. I’ve never heard of this before and was hoping that in July it wouldn’t require any extra steps to get in. Do you have any idea what it’ll be like by then?
Hi Stephanie, yes that is accurate. Good news is I will be visiting very often during the initial opening as well as right when they implement the new virtual queue system. This article is updated constantly with new information, so keep checking as your visit gets closer.

Does my Annual Pass count as a Disneyland Account? Or do I need to do something else?
Yes, it’s your log in on the Disneyland app… same one you can also use on Disneyland’s website.
I am coming to Disneyland for the first time June 11-13. We are only getting a 2 day ticket with Maxpass. I currently have a reservation at a good neighbor hotel and another one at the Disneyland Hotel. I know that staying at a Disney resort doesn’t automatically mean we will get into the park. However, I am wondering if we will have a better chance of getting into Disneyland Park since we will have Extra Magic Morning Hours each day of our stay when staying at a Disney resort. I have been hearing that the park will meet capacity due to the opening of Galaxy Edge. I just don’t want to get there and not be able to get into the park. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Hi Kim, when you stay at a Disney owned hotel you get access to Extra Magic Hour on these days– Disneyland Tues, Thurs, Sat and California Adventure M, W, F, Sun. If your Disneyland days fall on a Tues, Thurs or Sat then I would certainly use that to your advantage. You also have the advantage of a reservation for Galaxy’s Edge when staying on property. I would keep your Disneyland Hotel reservation and not chance it with a good neighbor hotel. I hope that helps.
