Marvel Land at the Disneyland Resort?

Thor at Disneyland Resort

YES! Disney confirmed a super hero-themed land coming to Disneyland Resort in 2020 on March 20, 2018. I am over the moon!

The Disneyland Resort has struggled with ways to incorporate the newly acquired heroes into their parks since 2009. Captain America and other Marvel characters have had short-term homes in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland both at outdoor meet and greets and inside the short-lived Super Hero HQ in the Tomorrowland Expo Center.

As of July 2016, Marvel meet and greets like Spider Man can be found at California Adventure’s Hollywood Land. You can always check the official Disneyland app during your visit to find the most current location of character meet and greets.

Marvel at the Disneyland Resort Rides

Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout!

The previous attraction, Hollywood Tower of Terror has been re-imagined into “Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!” which opened May 27, 2017 along with “Summer of Heroes” at California Adventure.

Want a preview of what to expect during your breakout mission? Listen in on Star-Lord’s mix tape—the same vintage pop songs that will play during your ride on Guardians:

Marvel at the Disneyland Resort “Summer of Heroes”

This event ended in 2017.

May 27 through September 10, 2017 “Summer of Heroes” will run at California Adventure. Here’s what to expect during “Summer of Heroes”:

  • May 27th Grand Opening of Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: Breakout. Grab a FASTPASS first thing in the morning; we expect FASTPASSES to run out during the first few weeks (or months) of the new attraction’s opening.
  • Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance Off! – it’s a boom-box style rock ‘n roll party in the often underused area of Hollywood Land that once hosted the popular Mad T. Party dance party.
  • Marvel character encounters including Star-Lord, Black Widow, Spider-Man, Hawkeye or Captain America.
  • Avengers Training Initiative – Black Widow and Hawkeye assemble young recruits for a series of tests to see if they have what it takes to join the ranks of the Avengers. We expect this to be similar to Jedi Training with an Avengers twist.
  • Special Avengers merchandise and dining options

Marvel at the Disneyland Resort Must-Haves

In the past, it’s the girly Disney Princesses that have all the fun, but with Marvel joining the Disney team, we’ve seen just how SUPER everyone can be at the Disneyland Resort.

Here’s a few of my favorite Marvel merch to wear to Disneyland or have around the house.

These capes and make any kid into an instant super hero. Plus, this comes in a 4 pack set for tons of creative play and posing with different Marvel characters at Disneyland.

These Marvel t-shirts for Mom and Dad make a great themed outfit for the family at the Disneyland Resort.

What do you think about incorporating Marvel at the Disneyland Resort, how are you handling the many changes taking place at Disney parks lately?

  • Hi Jessica,

I would love to know where you heard MarvelLand could take over the current Hollywoodland and Monsters, Inc. ride. I would be so bummed to have Mike and Sulley to the Rescue disappear! I am already bummed about TOT, but know that it makes sense and necessary for the new Marvel themes…just wondering how far they are going to take it! 🙂

    • Hey Cassie, there have been rumors of this expansion for at least a couple of years with MiceChat being the most credible resource for insider information. These two articles from 2015 point at a Marvel expansion in that area and others. These plans make even more sense now that Disney has confirmed the Eastern Gateway coming in 2018 which will open up much of that rumored space. Thanks for pointing out the lack of sources. I will update the article with these links as well.
