This article was originally published in 2015 or 2016, it’s been so long I can’t even recall. That being said, it was one of the first guides I wrote to Star Wars at Disneyland. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Disneyland Opened May 31, 2019

Does Disneyland have Star Wars Land? Yes, Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World both have a land dedicated to the Star Wars franchise, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland opened May 31, 2019.

If you’ve been following The Happiest Blog on Earth, you know we’ve been reporting about the now OPENED land, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, since early 2015. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has made a big impact at both Disneyland in Anaheim and Walt Disney World in Orlando.

What’s here and what’s to come for Star Wars at Disneyland:

• The Star Wars Launch Bay, an interactive experience that immerses guests into Star Wars at Disneyland. You can experience character meet and greets, real Star Wars costumes, props and other hands-on entertainment inside Star Wars Launch Bay.
• Jedi Training Academy: This attraction is now closed at Disneyland Park. Trials of the Temple invites young Padawans to battle villains in a live action experience.

Do I need reservations for opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge? Yes. Disney Parks Blog announced, “Guests planning to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland park in California between May 31 and June 23, 2019 will need valid theme park admission and will be required to make a no-cost reservation, subject to availability, to access the land. Information on how to make a reservation will be available at a later date. Guests staying at one of the three Disneyland Resort hotels during these dates will receive a designated reservation to access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during their stay (one reservation per registered guest); valid theme park admission is required.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Disneyland Map

Where in Disneyland is Star Wars Land? Encompassing 14 acres, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is in the former Big Thunder Mountain Ranch area, expanding into backstage space. This DOES NOT include Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. That isn’t going anywhere. Want a peek at the progress? What did Star Wars Land replace? Out-dated rumors suggested that a Star Wars Land would be built in either Tomorrowland, Mickey’s Toontown or even land on Harbor Blvd and beyond. However, we now know Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is in the former Big Thunder Mountain Ranch area, expanding into backstage space.

Guests visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will enter Black Spire Outpost, the largest settlement on the planet Batuu Disney Parks Blog and as says, “is an infamous stop for traders, adventurers, and smugglers traveling around the Outer Rim and Wild Space. Off the beaten path, this outpost has become a haven for the galaxy’s most colorful — and notorious — characters. Widely known for the petrified remains of its once towering ancient trees, the spires now stand guard across the river valleys and plains and have long captured the imagination of travelers to this planet. To the first settlers, these petrified spires became more than just landmarks; they became the heart of the outpost itself.”

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Disneyland Rides

What rides will be at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Disneyland? Two signature attractions have been announced for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

“Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run” This attraction opened May 31, 2019. Read our ultimate Millennium Falcon ride guide here. 

You’ve dreamed of this since you were a kid right? This iswhere you take control of the ship on a secret mission, and an epic Star Wars adventure that lands you right in the middle of a climactic battle. “Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run” is a motion simulator attraction, which we plan to add to our list of Disneyland rides that might make you sick. Jim Hill from Disney Dish podcast reports, “There are six seats inside of the pilot compartment. In order to ensure that this thing has decent capacity, there are seven pods in operation at any one time. So that’s 42 people who are piloting the Millennium Falcon at any one time. I’m hearing a three and a half minute ride cycle. Again, you’re seated inside the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon, but you’re looking out from that window array that we’ve all seen from the film. In order to pull off that effect – again, the capsule moves in conjunction with the imagery – you’re looking out, basically, into a circular space, sort of a half dome.”

“Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance” This attraction opens January 17, 2020. No FASTPASS or Disney MaxPass will be available at opening. 

Sources previously dubbed this attraction “Stormtrooper Battle Escape” or just “Battle Escape”. The ride is set to take guest through a long, interactive queue in multiple environments before actually boarding the ride. The ride capacity is about 1,500 per hour, about 1/2 the capacity of Pirates of the Caribbean.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Disneyland Food

Oga’s Cantina

The first thing that many Disney-fanatics were thrilled to hear about this land was the addition of a cantina. Oga’s Cantina “attracts some of the most interesting and disreputable characters in the galaxy.” This safe-haven for smugglers will serve food and drinks with exotic ingredients served in standard and souvenir options with drinks for adults and mocktails for children of all ages. 

Alcoholic drinks have finally arrived for the public at Disneyland Park. Previously, alcohol was only served at the private Club 33. Now you can sip and enjoy inside Oga’s, but all alcohol must stay inside Oga’s Cantina. What happens in Oga’s, stays in Oga’s.

Mocktails at Oga’s Cantina will be offered in abundance! When I first dined at Lamplight Lounge, we ordered every mocktail on the menu. Some of these mocktails have a similar vibe, especially the Carbon Freeze, which seems like a carbon print of Infinity Fizz, but just a different flavoring.

Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo

You know the scene in Star Tours when you make a bumpy landing into the hanger? Now imagine a food truck on top of the hanger to grab a quick bite to eat. This is where you’ll run into  Chef Strono “Cookie” Tuggs’ mobile kitchen and restaurant. Because our chef is always on the go, his kitchen is full of exotic ingredients from around the galaxy. 

Entrees: 

• Braised Shaak Roast, beef pot roast with cavatelli pasta, kale, and mushrooms
• Fried Endorian Tip-Yip, chicken with roasted vegetable mash and gravy
• Felucian Garden Spread, a plant-based kefta “meatball” dish with hummus and tomato-cucumber relish and pita bread
• Ithorian Garden Loaf, a plant-based “meatloaf” dish served with roasted vegetable mash, vegetables and mushroom sauce
• Smoked Kaadu Ribs, pork ribs with blueberry corn muffin and cabbage slaw
• Oven-roasted Burra Fish, Dijon-crusted sustainable fish with mixed greens, roasted vegetables, quinoa, and pumpkin seeds with ranch dressing
• Oven-roasted Tip Yip, roasted chicken with mixed greens, roasted vegetables, quinoa, and pumpkin seeds with  ranch dressing
• Yobshrimp Noodle Salad, noodle salad with chilled shrimp

Desserts:

• Raspberry crème puff with passion fruit mousse
• Chocolate cake with white chocolate mouse and coffee custard

Ronto Roasters

Barbecue in Batuu is everything we’ve been waiting for. Line up and watch a “former smelter droid, carefully turning the spit of meats (and complaining about his job).” Source D23.com.

Blue Milk Stand

I expect the Milk Stand to be packed with guests looking to enjoy a swig of two local favorites: blue milk and green milk. And you’ll be glad to know, this is a plant based milk. Made from rice milk, and created to be more like a smoothie.

Kat Saka’s Kettle

Come here for popcorn and snacks that are out of this galaxy, combining the rugged savory, spicy, and sweet flavors you’d expect on this remote traveling route. 

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Disneyland Shows

Inside Oga’s Cantina, Disney Parks Blog noted “musical entertainment is provided courtesy of RX-24, the former StarSpeeder 3000 pilot droid we first met in Star Tours, who has re-envisioned himself as the cantina’s DJ. As quirky and talkative as ever, he’s still trying to do his best on the job.”

No word yet if Jedi Training will transfer over to this new land from Tomorrowland or if Star Tours: The Adventures Continue will remain at Disneyland Resort. Jedi Training quietly closed shop early November 2018 with no announcement of a return.
