What to ride first in New Orleans Square! This is the big easy of Disneyland and is one of the best places for wandering and people watching. Our readers are always asking us, “what ride should I go on first at Disneyland? Which ride has the longest line?” The answers change with the season and also depends a lot on your preferences and group.
What to ride first in New Orleans Square aims to answer those questions and more. Be sure to read the entire series for what to ride first at Disneyland and see our first picks for each land in the park!
What to Ride First in New Orleans Square
New Orleans Square is one of my favorite locations inside of Disneyland. I love the ambiance in this area and especially love daydreaming about staying in the Disneyland Dream Suite overlooking New Orleans Square. Check out this video for a private tour of the Disneyland Dream Suite. But you’ll have to forgive the hostess for her pronunciation of Pirates of the Caribbean :).
If you’re headed to New Orleans Square first, you have your choice of Pirates of the Caribbean or Haunted Mansion. Haunted Mansion’s line is usually minimal, except during the holidays when it gets a makeover by Jack Skellington (from mid-September to January you may want to grab a FASTPASS for Haunted Mansion). Pirates is one of my favorite rides at Disneyland and a trip to the Resort just wouldn’t be complete without it.
What to Ride First in New Orleans Square: Pirates of the Caribbean
Yo-ho, yo-ho a pirate’s life for me! This is a Disneyland classic and you must ride it at least once on every visit. It’s a smooth, cool adventure that my baby brother loved to nap on every time (Taking a baby to Disneyland? Tons of tips here.). If you head here first thing in the morning you won’t wait long at all.
Later in the day, the line often looks a lot longer than it is. Choose the right side of the line when they split into two under the bridge. It’s usually faster because the left side can wrap farther around the back.
What to Ride First in New Orleans Square: Haunted Mansion
I can’t resist riding Haunted Mansion and it’s sorta a rite of passage for our kids. If you think your children will be nervous about it, I suggest watching a video of the ride on youtube with them and see how they feel. I also think the Haunted Mansion Holiday version is slightly less spooky.
