What is Savi’s Workshop at Disneyland?
Savi’s Workshop is an inter-active, hands-on experience where you build a premium, custom Lightsaber.
Amidst the excitement for a day at Disneyland, it’ll be hard not to anxiously await your appointment at Savi’s Workshop. This is an immersive experience, unlike anything in the park, that will leave you wanting more.
With a thought-out background and story, Cast Members can guide you through an experience that will truly make you feel like you’re in the movies. While this feels like a refreshed Star Wars story, there are still connections to the Original Trilogy, the Prequels, and the Sequels.
As you start to make your way there, you’ll notice that the location feels somewhat hidden as it lies right beside the staircase next to Ronto’s Roasters. This secretive location is purposefully hidden from the excitement of Galaxy’s Edge. Building a Lightsaber is a deeply personal experience as one journeys to become a Jedi, meant to be handled with respect and pride. Any Star Wars fan, whether they’re die-hard or a young padawan, will feel like this world has been brought right to them.
Do You Need Reservations for Savi’s Workshop?
Yes. To make a reservation, you can head to your Disneyland app and search Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers at the Disneyland Resort. Once you click on it, you’ll see an option below to check availability. There will typically be day-of reservation spots and spots up to 2 months in advance.
The important info to note on this page is to check in 10 minutes before your reservation. It will then ask you how many builders there will be at your party, and to choose a reservation time in the morning, afternoon, or evening.
The final three items needed to complete the reservation are Guest Info, Contact Info, and Credit Card Guarantee. The full experience is around 20 minutes, with the pricing starting at $249.99.
It’s also possible to go to the stand in front of Savi’s and ask when the next reservation is, and they can typically book you there, but it would be smarter and safer to make a reservation through the app. To recap on what you’ll do and need for the reservation:
- Check availability in the Disneyland App
- Pick your date, how many builders, and reservation time
- Guest Info
- Contact Info
- Credit Card Guarantee
If you’re debating whether you or a loved one will enjoy this experience, the first thing to know is that the experience is just as important as going home with a lightsaber.
Any age can choose to participate, but it’s definitely geared towards hardcore Star Wars fans. As you walk around Disneyland Resort, you’ll start to get a feel for who’s doing the workshop, and it’s usually young adult men and teens who proudly carry their lightsabers on their backs. Once you’ve decided if you want to create your own lightsaber, making a reservation is the first thing to do.
Can Kids Build a Lightsaber for Free?
For a limited time in 2026, children and their families are invited to Savi’s Workshop for a complimentary experience. The lightsaber itself is not free. It is recommended for ages 3 to 9 years old.
If you want to experience this version at Savi’s, look for “the Youngling Saber Building Expo – A Loth-Cat Crew Experience” which focuses more on exploring the ancient art of building a lightsaber.
This offering differs in a few ways. Here are key things to note:
- Walk-up availability (subject to capacity) daily from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
- Interactive experience only and a lightsaber is not included with participation
- Visitors have the option to purchase a lightsaber at the end of the experience (starts at $249)
Please note that the reservable paid experience for Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers will remain available daily from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
What Happens During the Experience?
Start by arriving 10 minutes before your reservation time for check in. Your custom experience will begin even before you enter the workshop.
Savi’s Workshop Lightsaber Themes
You’ll start by viewing the different hilt options and themes that correlate with it:
- Peace and Justice
- Power and Control
- Elemental Nature
- Protection and Defense
Our group had one builder, and he chose to do the Power and Control themed hilt that’s inspired by the Dark Side. You can choose any hilt you like, whether it’s because of what it symbolizes or because of how it looks; the choice is up to you. Once you have decided on your hilt, they will give you a pin symbolizing your hilt and a card.
There will likely be other guests in your workshop party, and with a limited amount of space, you’ll be able to bring in two guests to watch the experience. Once every builder has chosen their hilt, everyone will be ushered inside, where there will be cast members to assist in the building of your lightsaber. There are 13 spots that guests can use to build lightsabers.
When our group went, not all of the spots were taken; the number of people who will be building in the experience can be different depending on time and day.
Building Your Lightsaber at Savi’s
The actual building of the Lightsaber will be guided by a Cast Member’s narration of the importance of choosing a Kyber crystal and listening to the Force to become a Jedi. The Kyber crystal is what will choose the color of your Lightsaber blade. The colors to choose from in the workshop include:
- Blue
- Green
- Violet
- Red
You can purchase additional Kyber crystal colors at various Disneyland Resort locations as well.
If you’re nervous about assembling your Lightsaber correctly, don’t worry, Cast Members will guide you every step of the way. When your hilt is completed, the cast members will insert your hilt into a tube that will be on your right-hand side.
Even as a viewer, to me, this was the best part. This is a moment you’ll want to film and remember forever. The lights will dim, and Master Yoda’s voice will guide you into an unforgettable experience. Once told, you’ll be able to walk to your hilt and activate it.
The sound of your Lightsaber turning on with the vivid colors shining from the tube creates an amazing visual. The covering of the tube will then rise, and you’ll be able to lift your Lightsaber along with the other builders.
Master Yoda leaves with some closing remarks, leaving the new Jedi with a sense of hope and wonder. As you exit with your Lightsaber, a cast member will hand you a case to put your Lightsaber in that you can strap onto your shoulder and carry around the park.
Savi’s Lightsabers feel real, and a little heavy… if you had your building workshop in the morning, prepare to carry it around the park, as there will be no lockers or spots to leave it as you go on rides.
You can however, store your lightsaber at select merchandise locations, like Droid Depot, offer complimentary package hold service for merchandise purchased in the parks. Simply show your receipt, and they’ll store your purchases until the park closes.
But as a new Jedi, you’ll likely want to keep your Lightsaber near you at all times. This is a priceless tool and experience.
Is Savi’s Workshop Worth It for Kids?
The real question to ask will be… is this kid a Star Wars fan? If the answer is yes, then this experience is totally worth it.
If you can’t seem to keep them out of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, building a Lightsaber will be the perfect way to preserve their childlike wonder into an item that they will keep forever.
The workshop would be best for children starting at the age of 7. Though there are no scary moments or loud sounds, an older child will grasp and understand the experience more, making the price worth it. This experience will not be worth it if they use the Lightsaber to torment their little siblings or wreak havoc in the neighborhood.
Remember, this is a heavy item, and it may be difficult for some young children to carry. If any of this is the case, the best alternative would be to head over to The Star Trader in Tomorrowland, where they can build a smaller and less expensive Lightsaber that will perfectly satisfy them.

If they’d prefer a toy over an experience, choose the Tomorrowland version. If you think that your child might be interested in this experience, start to mention it a while before your trip and see if they still find any interest in it as the dates get closer.
