What We Know about Avatar at California Adventure
Here are a few quick facts to help you get to know Avatar at Disneyland Resort:
- No Opening Date announced for Disneyland Resort just yet.
- The new Disneyland destination draws inspiration from “Avatar: The Way of Water” and upcoming Avatar films.
- May 27, 2017 Pandora—The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom opened in Florida’s Walt Disney World Resort. This land is based on Oscar-winner James Cameron’s “Avatar” film.
I was there at the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and covered the construction process, through land reservations and every minor and major detail along the way. My experience covering not only Star Wars, but several other new attraction openings allows me to share my knowledge and expertise with you.
Does Disneyland have a Pandora or Avatar land? Yes, Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World will both have a land dedicated to the Avatar franchise. The Disneyland version will be part of Disney’s California Adventure Park according to announcements from Disney Parks Blog and the D23 Fan Event in August 2024.

What’s to expect from Avatar at Disneyland Resort:
Gusts visiting Avatar land will discover majestic natural wonders that can only be found on Pandora along with the beauty – and danger that coincides with the journey. This new and thrilling excursion will bring action, excitement, and wonder—taking guests all the way to the open seas of Pandora.
Ali Rubinstein of Walt Disney Imagineering adds, “This is going to be a dynamic, intense and emotional experience on a grand scale that we know our guests will love.”
Do I need reservations for opening of Avatar at Disneyland? At the time of publishing, all guests are required to have a valid theme park ticket and theme park reservations to enter Disneyland and/or Disney California Adventure Park.

Where in Disneyland is Avatar Land? Speculation has begun, but the only thing we know officially is Avatar will be part of Disney California Adventure Park as part of Disneyland Forward (as announced by Disney CEO Bob Iger).
What will Avatar Land replace? Rumors abound, but so far the only hints we have from Disney are the pieces of concept art that have been released and peeking around at the Disneyland app. As of this update, we don’t know where specifically Avatar Land will go at California Adventure Park.
Where are the entry/exit points for Avatar Land? These are all the questions I plan to answer and then some! I’m keeping this place holder here until we have official word from Disney.
Avatar Rides at Disneyland
What rides will be at Avatar Land at Disneyland? Attractions haven’t specifically been announced, but in the mean time be sure to watch “Avatar: The Way of Water”, “Avatar: Fire and Ash,”and other upcoming Avatar films to daydream alongside us for what is to come. 
We know for sure, these won’t be a copy and paste of rides from Walt Disney World who have Avatar Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey. Both of which are part of the Lightning Lane Single Pass and Lightning Lane Multi Pass, respectively.
I cannot wait to hear more about the rides and attractions coming to our own West Coast version of Avatar.
Avatar Land Food and Dining
For this section, we look to Walt Disney World’s Satu’li Canteen and Pongu Pongu. I dined at Satu’li Canteen and if the food is anything like the things we had there, we will all be happy! Fresh, beautiful dishes were prepared and enjoyed by all at this quick service restaurant.
Some highlights from Satu’li Canteen’s menu includes:
- Wood-Grilled Chicken Thighs marinated with Garlic and Olive Oil topped with Crunchy Vegetable Slaw and Boba Balls served with your choice of Base and Sauce
- Shrimp tossed in a Chili-Garlic Sauce topped with Crunchy Vegetable Slaw and Boba Balls served with your choice of Base and Sauce
- Blueberry Cream Cheese Mousse with Passion Fruit Curd
- Pandoran Sunrise a Refreshing mix of Simply Pineapple Juice and Simply Limeade with Poweade Melon
We also expect drinks for 21+ throughout the area, plus kids meals a plenty! The menu for Avatar and Disneyland Resort will be delicious, I just know it!
Entertainment at Avatar Land Disneyland
Will nighttime experiences be part of our Avatar at Disneyland Resort? I certainly hope so! The way things light up at night in Pandora at Animal Kingdom is so immersive—I’d love to see something similar for us. I’d also like to see some elements of Avatar added to World of Color at California Adventure for the debut of this new land.
