Best Places to Watch Disneyland Fireworks
There are many great spots to watch Disneyland fireworks, some with better views than others. The best place depends on your group’s priorities: Do you want the iconic castle view, a quick exit, or a spot away from the heavy crowds?
Still mapping out your whole day at Disneyland?
I’ve already done the hard part. My Disneyland Park Plans walk you through ride order, dining, and timing for a stress-free day—so you spend less time figuring it out and more time enjoying the parks. Just pick your plan and go!
Get My Step-By-Step Park Plans1. Main Street, U.S.A. (Best Overall Experience)
This is one of my favorite locations to view Disneyland fireworks because you get to embrace the entire classic Disney experience. You’re situated on Main Street, U.S.A., with the castle in the distance, allowing you to take it all in—including characters flying over the castle like Tinker Bell or Buzz Lightyear!
- What you’ll see: Projections on the castle, projections wrapping around the Main Street facades, and fireworks shooting over Sleeping Beauty Castle.
- Where to stand: Anywhere along Main Street is great. If you want to stay in the park afterward, get closer to the castle. If you plan to leave, stand closer to the Emporium.
- Time commitment: ~30 minutes. It’s relatively easy to get a walk-up spot here, but everyone is required to stand during the show.
- Pros & Cons: You get the most immersive projection experience, but you will be packed in tightly with other guests.
- Exit Strategy: Turn around and head straight down Main Street to the exit gates.
2. Sleeping Beauty Castle (Best for Iconic Photos)
Sleeping Beauty Castle is the focal point of Disneyland Park. It’s no wonder so many people want to view fireworks from this iconic location.
- What you’ll see: Direct, close-up projections on the castle and fireworks shooting high above your head.
- Where to stand: As close to the center of Sleeping Beauty Castle as possible, near the drawbridge. Avoid trees and tall objects.
- Time commitment: Up to 3 hours. Hardcore fans stake out benches and curbing near this area hours before the show.
- Pros & Cons: Because you are so close, you have to constantly move your head back and forth to see both the projections (low) and fireworks (high). It also requires the most waiting time.
3. “it’s a small world” (Best for Avoiding Crowds)
I love watching fireworks in this location because the projections are incredibly crisp and clean. It’s as if they were made to be displayed specifically on the “it’s a small world” facade!
- What you’ll see: Massive projections on “it’s a small world” and fireworks shooting slightly to the left.
- Where to stand: Anywhere on the promenade in front of the attraction.
- Time commitment: ~30 minutes (mostly just the time it takes to walk back to this remote corner of the park).
- Pros & Cons: Much lower crowds than Main Street. However, if you want to leave the park immediately after, it takes a while to navigate to the front gates.
4. Rivers of America (Best if Watching Fantasmic)
This is the best spot to view fireworks if you’re watching Fantasmic right before the show. It’s even better if you have reserved viewing for Fantasmic. You are encouraged to stay right in your spot because the fireworks start immediately after!
- What you’ll see: Projections on the Fantasmic water screens over the Rivers of America and fireworks shooting slightly to the right.
- Where to stand: Anywhere along the Rivers of America railing.
- Time commitment: ~30 minutes (or no extra wait if you are already there for Fantasmic!).
VIP & Reserved Fireworks Spots
If you’re looking for a fireworks experience that’s super laid-back and appeals to that VIP status, you need to book the Tomorrowland Skyline Terrace (this experience isn’t always available). This reservation-only experience puts you high above the Disneyland crowds.
Tomorrowland Skyline Terrace Experience
Important Note: This experience is the ultimate Disneyland escape, but fireworks are never guaranteed due to weather. I’ve done this twice, and one time the fireworks were canceled. However, the VIP treatment makes it worth every penny!
- Cost & Booking: Starts at $89 per person (tax included; kids under 3 are free). Reservations open 60 days in advance. Separate park admission is required.
- The Experience: Check in at Galactic Grill Window 1. Access to the lounge is open from your check-in time until 10:00 PM. Don’t show up five minutes before the fireworks—make use of your time up there!
- Food & Activities: You can order from a special menu. All non-alcoholic drinks (coffee, soda, hot cocoa) are unlimited. You’ll get access to table chargers, blankets to snuggle up, and board games like Connect Four. Cast Members often host Disney trivia!
- The View: You’ll see fireworks shooting above Tomorrowland, weather permitting, with the accompanying soundtrack piped into the lounge. Sometimes characters even make a surprise visit!
Secret & Alternative Viewing Spots
Don’t want to wait around for a spot? Here are a few unconventional, “secret” ways to enjoy the nighttime spectaculars without the crowds.
1. Watch While Riding Attractions
My favorite “secret spot” is simply enjoying your favorite rides during the show. You won’t get the full projection experience, but seeing the sky light up while spinning through the air is pure magic. Top rides for fireworks views include:
- Astro Orbitor
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
- Dumbo the Flying Elephant
- Mad Tea Party
- Matterhorn Bobsleds
- Radiator Springs Racers (in DCA)
2. Adventureland Treehouse
This doesn’t always work perfectly due to tree coverage, but if Fantasmic isn’t on the schedule and you want an elevated, highly secluded spot, climbing the treehouse steps offers a unique vantage point!
3. The Esplanade (Between the Parks)
You can absolutely view fireworks from Downtown Disney, but buildings often block your view. For the best outside-the-park view, walk toward the Disneyland Main Gates and sit in the Esplanade (the plaza between Disneyland and DCA). You can hear the music and watch the bursts right over the train station.
4. From Your Hotel
Don’t pay to upgrade your room to a fireworks view unless you’re at a Disney hotel or want your kids in pajamas during the show! Many off-site hotels are well within view of the fireworks. Just step outside or ask the front desk at check-in for the best viewing deck on the property.
Disneyland Fireworks Shows: A Complete Guide
Firework shows come and go at Disneyland Resort, and some fan-favorites return again and again. Here is a brief synopsis of the spectaculars you might catch during your trip:
Wondrous Journeys
Originally part of the 100 Years of Wonder Celebration, this incredible show is now a staple of the 70th Disneyland Anniversary celebration. It features nods to all 60 Walt Disney Animation Studios films to date (including Encanto, Hercules, Big Hero 6, and Moana) and features the catchy original song “It’s Wondrous.”
Fire of the Rising Moons (Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge)
The best spot to see fireworks in Batuu is at Galaxy’s Edge! Visitors can get an amazing view of the bursts directly over the Millennium Falcon, now featuring a special musical score, “Fire of the Rising Moons,” by legendary composer John Williams!
Halloween Screams
Halloween Screams runs during August, September, and October. Fireworks usually fly on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. On weeknights, the show still runs featuring incredible villainous music and projections, just without the pyro.
Believe in Holiday Magic
The holidays at Disneyland runs November through the first week of January. This heartwarming show fills the night sky every night during the season and ends with a magical snowfall finale over Main Street!
Mickey’s Mix Magic
Originally debuting for the “Get Your Ears On” celebration, this is a high-energy projection show. It acts as a “filler” show between major seasons. You’ll hear club-remix versions of favorite Disney songs like Frozen’s “Let It Go” and “Un Poco Loco” from Coco.
Disneyland Forever
Disneyland Forever is one of my all-time favorites. Its tribute to Walt Disney just warms my heart, and the orange projections across the castle at the beginning are stunning.
Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular
This is one of the cutest, most heartfelt nighttime shows to ever play at Disneyland Resort, celebrating the power of friendship through the lens of Pixar animation.

Are there fireworks at Disneyland tonight?
Projections show nightly at Disneyland Park, with added fireworks typically reserved for weekends (Friday–Sunday) and major holidays. Check the official daily schedule on the Disneyland app.
What time do Disneyland fireworks start?
Disneyland Fireworks usually begin at 9:00 PM or 9:30 PM. High winds at upper elevations can cause shows to be shortened or canceled at the last minute, even if it feels calm on the ground.
How long do the fireworks last?
The shows generally last about 15 minutes. Plan for a 45–60 minute total time commitment to account for getting to your spot and exiting the crowds.
Do Disneyland fireworks run every night?
No. During peak seasons (Summer, Halloween, and Christmas), fireworks usually run nightly. During the off-season (Winter/Spring), fireworks are typically limited to weekends only. However, the projection versions of the shows still run nightly!
Can I make it to World of Color after the fireworks?
Yes! Just make sure you are viewing the fireworks from near the back of Main Street U.S.A. (near the exits) so you can quickly hop over to Disney California Adventure before that park closes. You’ll then be able to see the second show of World of Color.
Can I make it to fireworks after Fantasmic?
Yes! In fact, the absolute best strategy is to remain right in your Fantasmic viewing spot. The fireworks will begin shortly after the water show ends.
What’s the quickest way to exit Disneyland after fireworks?
Head straight down Main Street and follow the one-way traffic patterns set by Cast Members. If Cast Members open the backstage overflow gates behind Main Street, take them! They bypass the crowded shops and drop you right at the front gates.
During the Diamond Celebration, guests heard this magical quote play over the speakers each night: “Walt Disney wanted the nightly fireworks to be like a kiss goodnight—a little bit of pixie dust to end your visit to this Magic Kingdom. It’s a tradition we honor and cherish to this day.”
Enjoy your “kiss goodnight” with these tips, and let me help you plan the rest of your Disneyland vacation! Leave your comments and questions below.

When does Disneyland start doing fireworks every night?
Nightly fireworks are usually during school breaks and all summer long. On regular weeks, they’re limited to F, S, S night weather permitting.
Thanks for the tips, Jessica! I appreciate that you have all the info for different shows on here. I wasn’t sure what to expect with the Disneyland Forever show since it’s returning tonight but thanks to this post I figured out we’ll be just fine watching it from the Rivers of America since we’re here already for Fantasmic. And tomorrow night we’ll run over after World of Color to watch it on Main Street!
You’re welcome! I hope you had a wonderful time Jill.
